Safety First, Last, and Always
At Standard Bus, safety is our top priority. The following policies outline expectations for student behaviour, vehicle operations, yard safety, and monitoring procedures to ensure a safe and reliable transportation environment for everyone. Learn about the route policies and procedures that help us ensure we transport our passengers Safely Together on the way to school and home.
Standard Bus Yukon – School Bus Safety & Operations Policies
Passengers are expected to follow rules to ensure a safe and respectful ride for all:
- Follow all instructions given by the bus driver
- Remain seated and face forward while the bus is in motion
- Keep aisles and exits clear of bags and personal items
- Do not throw any objects inside or outside the bus
- No eating or drinking on the bus
- No vaping, smoking, or use of tobacco products
- Treat the driver, other passengers, and bus property with respect
Failure to follow bus rules may result in disciplinary action.
Restricted Items on Buses:
For safety reasons, the following items are not permitted on Standard Bus vehicles:
- Snowboards
- Skis
- Hockey sticks
- Curling brooms
- Baseball bats
- Longboards
- Scooters or bicycles
- Lasers
- Animals (except for approved service animals)
Restricted items may create safety hazards and are not allowed on board at any time.
Safe Stop Procedure & Use of Lights Policy Pickup & Drop-off Procedures:
At least 150 meters before a scheduled stop, the driver activates amber flashing lights. The amber lights are followed by:
- Red intermittent front and rear flashing lights
- The extended stop sign arm
- The front crossing arm
These safety features must be fully activated before any student boards or exits the bus.
